A word from Lars

"Winter season is hibernation period for the vineyards, but for our various teams at Buitenverwachting it's high time. The cellar team is rushed to get the new vintage into the bottle, which mean evaluating all wines, blending, stabilising, filtering and finally bottling. The vineyard team is pruning fast and furious and preparing the soils for new plantings and our office is busy attending to high season sales in all northern hemisphere markets. Even our flock of sheep has the strenuous job of raising their young, with over 20 new born lambs so far".

Wine

Cellarmaster Hermann Kirschbaum says of harvest 2013 “Tough on winemakers this year but the wines will make up for the worries and the hard work”. It took skill on the part of the winemakers to handle the volume of grapes. They did and Hermann says “Probably one of the best vintages of red so far! Nice fruit and aromatics in the wine. Colour is also nice. Analysis good for the white as well.” It all sound good for vintage 2013 and we look forward with great anticipation.

Intrepid winemaker Brad Paton is making the white this year and says that the Sauvignon Blanc is looking good.

Two of his Limited Vintage wines are to be released soon and will only be available at the farm:

Maximus 2011

3rd Time Lucky 2012

There is a whisper that another very special wine he has under wraps may also be released very soon, watch this space…
