A word from Lars

  

"Reflecting on the past twelve months, 2014 was a great vintage and received amazing accolades for our wines such as Platter 5-Star, Gold at Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, Top 100 from Wine Spectator and Gold rating at Veritas National Wine Show. Our restaurant was also acknowledged by receiving Best Restaurant Award at Food 24.
     
Unfortunately a devastating fire in our work shop destroyed most of our agricultural machinery and we are in the process of rebuilding our infrastructure and replacing
equipment and tractors.
     
Our staff has once again been the back bone of Buitenverwachting and I would like to thank them for the great support and energy they have invested in the vineyard,
cellar and general up keep of Buitenverwachting.

A visit to this award winning restaurant is one of the special experiences in the Western Cape. A five star restaurant situated on one of the most beautiful and unspoilt wine farms in the Cape and so close to the City ...
  
Eminent food critic Jos Baker reviewed the Restaurant recently and had this to say:
  
There's a hospitable holiday mood wafting through Buitenverwachting, the informality rejuvenating the image of the former stand-alone restaurant and attracting a younger crowd.
  
Not that the food standards have relaxed, nor the emphasis on seasonal freshness, which dedicated Edgar Osojnik, long standing chef and partner, would not have tolerated.
   
Everything is simpler since the restaurant became part of a free-flowing, vibrant unit. Follow the flow from the informal Coffee BloC (coffee beans are fresh from the roastery), to the sunny courtyard, linking tasting room, terrace and restaurant. Where you eat depends on your mood

Lars says that what makes this award even more meaningful is that only 50 wines received this accolade out of 7.700 listed wines and that he is thrilled that another four of Buitenverwachting wines were rated as ‘Highly Recommended'.
  
He is delighted with all the good news and is very proud of the winemaking team! He says "our practical and intuitive approach to wine making is sure to produce good wine".

Tasting Room  

      

The sliding glass walls opening up onto the Courtyard where the fountain soothes one with the gentle sound of water; the natural beauty of the charming gardens all add to the pleasure of time spent enjoying the company of friends and tasting the superb Buitenverwachting Wines.
  
If you feel peckish, Winzer Platters and Cheese Platters are on order.
     
Tasting costs R40 which is refundable on a purchase of wine. Opening times are: 
    
Monday - Friday :  09h00 to 17h00
Saturday            :  09h00 to 15h00  
Not open on Sunday or Public Holidays

        
Winzer Platters are R75 these comprise a selection of imported cold meats with a selection of local cheeses, grapes, nuts and preserves.
  
Cheese Platters are R85 and are a selection of local cheeses served with preserves and biscuits.

Maack and Martin
      

Situated on the beautiful Buitenverwachting Estate in one of the original Cape Dutch buildings, steeped in history Meagan Maack and Colette Martin, award winning designers make exquisite jewellery. Beautiful, exclusive pieces are on display and for sale in the Tasting Room on the farm.
   
Bespoke jewellery can be exclusively designed to suit the individual.

Picnics

    

Picnic Baskets are served at Tables under the Oaks on the lawns from 12h00 to 14h00 daily except on Sundays and Public Holidays. There will also not be Picnics over Christmas and the New Year.
   
Picnics are yummy and made up of Snoek Pâté, Vegetarian Quiche, Black Forest Ham, Meatballs and Chicken Roll. A selection of cheeses, Nuts and fresh salads served with Breads and Biscuits, Tea and Coffee together with Desserts complete your delicious meal in the open air.
Buitenverwachting Wines and soft drinks are for sale. The cost is R145 per adult and R45 for children.
