A word from Lars

"The winter season will give us the much needed break to attend to our new projects. With a Gin and "Cognac" style brandy in the pipeline, we are looking to establish a separate lounge for tasting our range of triple distilled spirits.

Enjoy the hibernation period and maybe you will find the time to test one of our daily winter soups, which will be on offer in the Coffee BloC and Wine Tasting".

Coffee BloC and the Wine Tasting are open throughout and will be serving the delicious breakfasts the trendsetters love!

Most popular on the menu - Eggs Benedict - it's just the best way to start your day. Why the name? Apparently a cure for a hangover concocted by Lemuel Benedict. Rumour has it that in 1894 he walked into the Waldorf Hotel (not school) and ordered "buttered toast, poached eggs, crisp bacon, and a hooker of Hollandaise." Oscar Tschirky, the famed maître d'hôtel, was so impressed with the dish that he put it on the breakfast and luncheon menus.

Barista Wezo makes the best coffee going ... He is through to the National finals of the Barista Competition – Buitenverwachting is proud of him.

Wine

Brad Paton winemaker par excellence says that after a long and cold winter in 2013 the crop was up about 40% and that the 2014 Vintage is more elegant and 'lighter' this year. He is excited about the quality.

He says "the two new Sauv Blanc blocks (on some of our better soils) gave their first proper crop this year, so here I am waiting in anticipation for the outcome, and then a block on excellent soil, that is seven years old and we've been struggling to get it to give us a crop, finally gave us a beautifully balanced "yield", healthy fruit, and great aromatics in the grapes. This wine is still on the "mother-lees" in the tank, is looking great!!! So very happy!".

Brad is also sure to have some great Limited Vintage wines up his sleeve ...

Events

Events Manager Yolanda Osojnik takes all the hassle out of the planning of weddings, birthdays, anniversaries or any other special occasion in life. She handles all the administrative work, including paperwork when necessary, cakes, flowers and even photographers if so desired.

She says "you're right underneath the mountains; it is an oasis of beautiful countryside and close to civilisation." Stylish and yet casual which makes for a very relaxed ambience.

There are many options available to suit the most discerning of tastes. Buitenverwachting is one of the few venues where dinner dancing is possible. Catering is flexible with menus ranging from plated service to buffet style events as well as informal South African Braai (Barbecue).
